Roja is a film made by Mani Ratnam in 1992 and scored by legendary AR Rahman.  The actors in the film were all from South India and spoke the Tamil language. The movie and soundtrack became so popular it was dubbed in Hindu and Urdu and became a smash Bollywood hit. The premise is a love story between an Indian cryptologist Rishi Kumar and his wife Roja, set against the backdrop of the insurgency in the Kashmir Valley of the early 1990s.  The film takes a very pro-India stance to the Kashmir issue, yet its themes of love and unity especially in its songs resound throughout.  In one of the film’s most memorable moments, Rishi introduces his wife to the beauties of the Kashmir Valley, and the song “Yeh Haseen Vadiyaan” plays in the background. Also known in Tamil as "Puthu Vellai Mazhai", this quickly became one of the most popular and memorable songs of all time.
